Kunstart: Malerei
Stil: Abstrakt

Statement:
I have an almost insatiable appetite for bright, vivid colors and bold lines and tend to explore these in my art, even when I try to be more 'subdued'. My work has evolved over the years from photo-realistic drawings to more free flowing, abstract paintings reflecting my expansion of boundaries and tolerances as I have matured.

My creative process is very intuitive, at times visceral, as I rarely have a 'plan' when I start a new piece but often just choose a starting color and enjoy the feel of the buttery paint flowing across the canvas and seeing where it leads. My art doesn't come from a place of needing to make a statement or trying to conform to anyone's rules about what is good or bad, but simply my imagination and willingness to explore my inner landscape.

Vita / Lebenslauf:
Pamela has been an artist since early childhood, possessing a natural sense of design and color. As a young girl growing up in North Carolina she was never bored but could always be found ‘making stuff’ out of whatever materials she could find. Primarily self-taught [with the exception of a basic art education in the public school system and various classes taken over the years] Pamela enjoys exploring many media including painting, photography, drawing [particularly colored pencil!], block printing, batik, weaving and mixed media.

Having started as a childhood artist, Pamela’s emergence onto the professional art scene has been circuitous. Rejecting art school offers for fear it would stifle her creativity and turn art into a ‘have to’ rather than a joyful expression, Pamela opted to attend “regular” college in Charleston, South Carolina and study physics and mathematics. Her academic success lead to graduate school studying statistics and a career as an Information Technology consultant in Washington, D.C. and Denver, Colorado.

After 12 years in systems analysis/development and project management, her need to return to her creative side caused her to turn her back on a successful corporate career and begin a marketing, graphic design and website design company [Zafari, Inc.] with her husband, Christopher. For awhile graphic/web design allowed Pamela to combine her artistic talent with her technical background and the results were impressive. Initially founded in Denver, Colorado, the company and the couple moved to back to Pamela’s college town, Charleston, South Carolina in 2004. After 8 years at the helm as President/CEO of Zafari, Pamela’s artistic roots beckoned even louder so she turned the company over to her husband and struck out on her own as a fulltime independent artist. Pamela, Christopher and their three canine children Sedona, Dixie and Beau currently still live in Charleston, South Carolina.
