Born in Toronto, Canada,Norma Jean Squires is an artist, writer and curator. Having completed a B.F.A. at the Cooper Union in New York City she worked on sectional bronze sculptures that eventually evolved into colored, wall-sized kinetic constructions, wood or aluminum columns that rotate at speeds as low as 1/4 rpm.
After moving to Los Angeles and acquiring her master's degree from California State University, Northridge, her focus changed to painting and has remained so to the present.
Having been employed as a writer for a non-profit organization for ten years, Squires has feature articles published in various catalogs. She recently illustrated a book titled, "Poem Into Life", written by Gerald Hopman and published by XLibris. It features a suite of paintings illustrating the poem and is now available in book stores, libraries etc. She has also illustrated 3 children's books, "The Witch Who Whistled", "The Mouse in the Magic Forest" and "I am a Picture Book", the latter written in verse that is put to music.
Her curatorial exhibits include:"Angels, Ancestors and Spirit Guides" and "Quarks to Quasars"

Squires has exhibited nationally and internationally: Martha Jackson Gallery, New York City; a solo at the East Hampton Gallery, N. Y. City; the Museum of Modern Art's lending library; Gallery Moos, Toronto; the La Jolla Museum of Art and the Newport Harbor Museum, both in California and, more recently, "The Peace Show" Nagasaki Museum, Japan;Pyong Taek City, Korea; Chonburi University, Bangkok, Thailand; Museo del Puerto, Ensenada, Mexico; "Meet Ararat" Fine Art Museum, Yerevan, Armenia;"Open Art"at Atelier Gronard, Paris, France; "Wind Art Festival", Osaka, Japan; Asian International Art Festival, Beijing, China; "Women" in Space", American Jewish University, in Los Angeles plus many more venues in the Los Angeles area. She is included in a traveling exhibition opening in Ensenada, Mexico titled, "Building Bridges", an international art exchange involving 10 countries and 14 other artists.
Her work is in such public collections as, Sterling Forest Gardens, New York; Warner Bros. Records, Burbank, California; City Investing, New York City; Seimans Pacesetter Systems, Los Angeles, California; the Redwood City Public Library, California; The Perkins Building, Glendale, California; Chateau des Reaux, Chouze sur Loire, France et al.
Her work has been reviewed in Vision Magazine, Artweek, Art News, Arts magazine and numerous newspapers and periodicals.
