Bio / Resumee / Statement:
Thomas McGovern has been making photographs since 1977 and his work has been in over 20 solo and 30 group exhibitions. His artwork has been reviewed in The New York Times, Village Voice, Boston Herald, Boston Globe and many other publications. His photographs are in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Library of Congress, among others. He is the author of "Bearing Witness (to AIDS)" (A.R.T. Press/Visual AIDS 1999) and "Alpha Teach Yourself Black and White Photography in 24 Hours" (Pearson Education 2002) and his work is included in "Pandemic: Facing AIDS" (Umbrage Editions 2003), an international collection and travelling exhibition about the AIDS crisis. He has two forthcoming monographs, “Hard Boys + Bad Girls” (Schiffer Publishing) and “Amazing Grace” (Parker Publishing). He has written art criticism for Art Papers and Afterimage and Artweek magazines. He is an Associate Professor of Art at California State University, San Bernardino, where he teaches photography and oversees the graduate program in art.
