Bio / Resumee / Statement:
Shiho K. Rice was born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan. From a very young age she has been interested in observation and the creative process.
She moved to Canada by herself when she was 15. She grew to see the importance of her family and country, because she was looking at them from outside.
At the same time, from North American culture she gained the ability to express passions directly, passions which tend to be suppressed in Japan.
Here was where she began to paint and express her imaginations, to give them life.
She studied BFA at York University (Toronto, Canada), and transferred to City College of New York. She graduated with a BA in Theatre and Art, with magna cum laud, in 2005.
Her artworks were shown several times at Cave Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and Gen Japanese Restaurant (Brooklyn, NY).
She also designed a set for an Off-Broadway theatre play Secret Agent, and several sets and costumes for City College productions.
She is now a freelance illustrator and jeweler in New York City.
She likes adventure both in her imagination and in real life.
Like a magician who surprises and delights us by appearing to produce something out of thin air, she enjoys sharing her imagination with others. This is why she creates art.
