BIO Brigitte Radecki

Brigitte Radecki was born in Germany, grew up in Edmonton and now lives in Montreal, Quebec. Initially working in sculpture and installation, she has had solo exhibitions at Musée d�art contemporain in Montréal and has shown regularly at Gallery Christiane Chassay. She has also participated in several group exhibitions both in Europe and throughout Canada.

Her work is in several public and private collections such as the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Musée d�art contemporain in Montréal, the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec, Air Canada and the National Bank.

Fractured Landscapes

Fractured Landscapes
The method for creating the paintings in this series is to record the chance effects of dripped and splattered paint. I transcribe the shapes that originated with the paint splatters but paint only the spaces between these spontaneous calligraphic lines, resulting in what seem to be abstract landscapes.
What interests me is the resulting ambiguity and magic of perception where from one viewpoint the suggestive forms seem to be on the surface and come forward to create an image and from a closer view the surface breaks apart, becomes fractured and the spaces between the lines become small floating islands of flat colour.
Although the titles give a hint of my interest in nature and its fragility, the images are still very open to interpretation ---just as Rorschach tests or dreams might be. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m hoping that meaning is not immediately understood but comes slowly from �underneath� or when taking a different viewpoint.
