Vita / Lebenslauf:
LET US SPEAK ABOUT PAINTING
To speak about painting is, as far as I am concerned, to wander on the difficult path of making understandable the emotions felt. Words are not enough to enable me to let others feel what I feel, whereas color and materials appear so much more powerful in respect to sensitivity.
Love, Hate & Painting
Painting means passion: love for some, battlefields for others, an exhaust valve of pain or madness for others: one might say that each one has his or her own way to feel it.
According to my own taste, as I am a purist, authenticity should be stressed.
Authenticity is not the quest for aestheticism, in spite of the fact that aestheticism and authenticity both may be reflected in a work of art.
Authenticity depends on how the artist feels his or her own art. The true artist does not paint for « to be trendy ».
My pictural construction
I love play with materials on a large canevas. First, I prepare the surface of the motif in relief : I use fabrics, lace, burlap, chocolate wrapping or newspaper, blotting paper, hair, metal, everything attracts me.
Then, I use colors on the prepared surface. My colors are homemade from pigments which I mix with a synthetic binder : home cooking !
The, patiently, I put the colors one over the other with a sponge, paintbrushes, sprays ; I mix the colours with thick paste or with sand. I use spatulas, rollers, confronting clearness and opaqueness.
I love to touch, scratch, caress, graze my canevases. The tactile effect is most prominent in my paintings and I enjoy that others feel the pleasure of this touching.

Antoinette Privat
