Statement:
I live to create, I create to live.
I believe that with knowledge of the past, comes understanding of the present. Therefore in order to discover the essence of creation and the primal role of an artist I found it necessary to go back to its roots.
After deep research I discovered that in the deepest dimension Art comes from transcendental experiences and magic. There were times when human life was connected to the natural environment and when the Arts were considered spiritual, magical, a secret language used in many rituals and rites. It has been associated with the exploration of the soul and the secrets of Nature, the beginning of taming the world, and to personalize and spiritualize the human as an individual. It originates from a deep need of trying to understand the world and define oneself in it.
After these discoveries I directed my research towards the shamanistic cultures, in the same time I started to explore the subject leading to my spiritual development through art, not only by creating it, but becoming art itself in performances which took the form of rituals and symbolic actions. In media like: painting and video I often used a universal language which I found in patterns, symbols and archetypes as well as mythology and mysterious landscapes.
Vita / Lebenslauf:
I was born in Rybnik, Poland in 1982. I am a visual artist and art curator. I express myself in various media like: painting, drawing, site-specific installations, media art, performance and public art. I also work as a freelance curator collaborating with Bielska Gallery BWA in Bielsko-Biała in Poland where I initiated and curate a Beyond Time Artist-in-Residence program, organized by the gallery since 2011. I am also curating exhibitions, workshops, outdoor art, giving lectures and presentations.
I received MFA at the Dutch Art Institute, ArtEZ in Enschede, the Netherlands (2008-2010) and MA at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan in Poland (2002-2007).
I have been awarded with several scholarships from: Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw (PL), 2013; the City Council of Bielsko- Biała (PL), 2011; the Stokroos Foundation in Utrecht (NL), 2010; the Polish Ministry of Culture, 2006/2007; the Socrates/Erasmus from Nottingham Trent University (GB), 2006/2007; the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan (PL), 2005/2006. During the 39th Painting Biennial - Bielska Jesień 2009 in Bielsko-Biała in Poland Izabela was honored with an Audience Award for her painting Diary.
I participated in many solo and group exhibitions, Artist-in-Residence programs, workshops and lecture presentations in Poland and abroad (in Australia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Lithuania, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and in the USA).
